Ethics Compliance Competitive Disadvantage State

Class 9f9ba762
http://proethica.org/ontology/intermediate#EthicsComplianceCompetitiveDisadvantageState
Definition

State in which an engineer's adherence to a professional ethics code places the engineer at a material competitive disadvantage relative to competitors who are not bound by the same code or who operate under home-country norms that permit conduct the code prohibits. The competitive disadvantage is acknowledged but does not constitute a justification for code non-compliance; rather, it is treated as a foreseeable consequence of voluntary membership that the engineer accepted upon joining the society.
